Aurora University tops Wartburg College, 3-0
Aurora swept Wartburg 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 on September 1, 2026, at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois, to open the season at 1-0.
Aurora held a meaningful edge in attack efficiency despite being nearly even in raw kills — the Spartans hit .164 as a team compared to Wartburg's .128. The clearest statistical separator, however, was the blocking column: Wartburg registered eight blocks to Aurora's one, yet still dropped all three sets. The Knights were simply unable to convert their net presence into momentum. Aurora out-dug Wartburg 53-50, and both teams finished with three aces apiece, making the efficiency margin the defining factor across the match.
Katelyn Ruse led all attackers with 10 kills on a .259 clip, also contributing 10 digs for a strong all-around effort. Izabella Kowalczyk added seven kills and 11 digs, while Peyton Darguzis chipped in six kills at a match-best .455 attack percentage among players with 10 or more attempts. For Wartburg, Brenna Baumgardner paced her side with nine kills, and libero Peyton Robinson anchored the back row with 19 digs.
In the third set, Wartburg strung together a 3-0 run capped by an ace from Aspen Falk to build a 17-14 lead, but Aurora responded by outscoring the Knights 11-6 the rest of the way to close out the match.
The win moves Aurora to 1-0 on the season, while Wartburg falls to 0-2.
