Edgewood University tops Elmhurst University, 3-0
Edgewood swept Elmhurst 25-22, 25-21, 25-19 on Monday, September 8 at the Todd Wehr Edgedome in Madison, Wis., to improve to 3-0 on the young season. Elmhurst falls to 1-3 with the road loss.
Edgewood held the statistical edge in nearly every category that mattered. The Eagles out-killed Elmhurst 39 to 31 and hit .198 as a team compared to the Bluejays' .170, maintaining a consistent attack efficiency advantage across all three sets. The most glaring gap came at the service line — Edgewood recorded nine aces to Elmhurst's four, a disparity that repeatedly disrupted Elmhurst's rhythm and put the Bluejays in immediate defensive holes. Both teams were evenly matched on the block (Edgewood 4, Elmhurst 5) and digs were close (44-41 in Edgewood's favor), so the kill and ace advantages proved decisive.
Nida Zukauskaite led all players with 13 kills on a .393 clip to go along with two blocks, anchoring Edgewood's offense throughout. Natalie Murphy added nine kills for the Eagles, while Reagan Siebler chipped in four kills and four aces as a consistent serve-pressure threat. For Elmhurst, Isabella Mendell paced the Bluejays with nine kills and Katie Hurta contributed seven kills, 11 digs, and two blocks in a well-rounded all-around effort.
In the third set, Edgewood ripped off a 6-1 run from 1-1 to go ahead 7-1, a burst fueled by consecutive kills from Murphy and Zukauskaite that put Elmhurst in a hole it could not escape.
The win moves Edgewood to 3-0 on the season, while Elmhurst returns home to regroup at 1-3.
