Elmhurst University tops North Park University, 3-0
Elmhurst swept North Park 25-13, 25-20, 25-8 on Thursday, October 2 at Carlson Gymnasium in Chicago, improving to 10-5 overall and 1-0 in CCIW play.
The gap in efficiency tells the story: Elmhurst hit .446 as a team compared to North Park's .019, a difference driven by the Bluejays' 8 blocks to North Park's zero and a 10-4 ace advantage on the service line. North Park registered 27 attack errors on the night — nearly as many as their 29 kills — while Elmhurst committed just 3. The Bluejays also held a substantial edge in digs, 41 to 28, limiting North Park's offensive opportunities throughout.
Katie Hurta led all players with 11 kills on a .524 hitting percentage, adding 5 blocks and 6 digs for a complete all-around line. Samantha Webb contributed 8 kills and a match-high 3 aces, while setter Freddie Temple ran the offense with 22 assists and added 2 aces of her own. Elayna Ammerman anchored the back row with a match-best 14 digs. For North Park, Rian Hobbs matched Hurta's 11-kill total but battled efficiency issues, finishing at .000 on 37 attempts.
In the third set, Samantha Webb served three consecutive aces as part of a 6-0 Elmhurst run that stretched the lead from 6-5 to 11-5, effectively closing out the match.
The win moves Elmhurst to 10-5 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
