Illinois Wesleyan University tops Hope, 3-0

No. 8 Illinois Wesleyan swept then-No. 17 Hope 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-15) on September 4, 2026, at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois, improving to 3-0 on the season in front of 250 fans.

The Titans out-hit the Flying Dutch by a wide margin, posting a .263 attack percentage compared to Hope's .065, with IWU recording 39 kills to Hope's 23. Illinois Wesleyan also held a 2-to-1 advantage in service aces (8-4) and out-dug the Dutch 43 to 27. The blocking ledger — 7 to 4 in IWU's favor — added another layer of pressure Hope struggled to overcome throughout the evening.

Alex Bardouniotis led all players with 10 kills on a .350 clip and added four digs and an ace for IWU. Carly Whitaker and Graci Junis each chipped in seven kills, while libero Alysa Lawton anchored the back row with 13 digs and three aces. For Hope, Maddie Ostrander paced the Flying Dutch with six kills and setter Brooke Hehl distributed 16 assists.

In the second set, IWU reeled off a 10-0 run from a 15-15 tie — capped by back-to-back Alysa Lawton service aces — to close out the frame 25-15 and seize firm control of the match.

The win moves Illinois Wesleyan to 3-0 on the season, while Hope falls to 0-2.
