Illinois Wesleyan University tops Wittenberg, 3-1

No. 6 Illinois Wesleyan defeated Wittenberg 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-14) on September 18, 2026, at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Ill., improving to 9-1 on the season.

The Titans held a clear edge in attack efficiency, hitting .268 as a team compared to Wittenberg's .147. IWU's fourth-set surge was particularly sharp — the Titans posted a .323 hitting percentage in the final frame while holding the Tigers to -.032 on the other side of the net. Wittenberg countered with a significant service advantage, recording 12 aces to IWU's five, but it was not enough to offset the kill disparity: 55 to 45 in favor of the Titans. Both teams were relatively even on blocks (7-6, IWU) and digs (59-57, IWU).

Carly Whitaker paced Illinois Wesleyan with 14 kills on a .464 hitting percentage, adding four blocks. Eleanor Palmer contributed 11 kills and hit .409, while Alex Bardouniotis rounded out the IWU attack with nine kills and 12 digs. For Wittenberg, Kait Colahan led with 11 kills and Maddie Luers added 10 kills along with five blocks. Ava Golem anchored the Tiger defense with 25 digs.

IWU erased a 5-0 Wittenberg deficit in Set 3 with a 10-0 run that flipped a 5-1 hole into an 11-5 lead, a stretch that effectively put the set out of reach.

The win moves Illinois Wesleyan to 9-1 on the season.
