Macalester College tops Loras College, 3-2
Macalester claimed a five-set road victory over Loras on September 19 at the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center in Dubuque, Iowa, winning 31–29, 23–25, 24–26, 25–15, 15–10 before 105 in attendance.
The Scots out-killed Loras 67–59 and held a meaningful edge in aces (12–8) and blocks (9–5), the latter proving decisive down the stretch. Macalester's attack efficiency (.202) topped Loras's (.153) for the match, though the gap between sets told the real story — the Scots posted a .297 clip in the fourth set while Loras managed an even .000, allowing Macalester to reset momentum heading into the fifth. Morgan Stone's serving was a consistent weapon, accounting for six of the team's 12 aces.
Channing Smith led all players with 20 kills on a .228 clip and added 13 digs for an all-around anchor performance. Siennah Calkins contributed 15 kills at an efficient .480 clip, and Adonia Anene added 14 kills of her own. For Loras, Cydney Tath paced the Duhawks with 16 kills and Cat Meyer recorded 12 kills to go with a match-high 21 digs.
Down 11–19 in the fourth set, Macalester reeled off an 8-0 run — capped by a Morgan Stone service ace and consecutive kills — to effectively put the set out of reach at 19–11, the key sequence that forced a fifth.
The win moves Macalester to 5–6 on the season, while Loras falls to 5–7.
