Mount St. Joseph University tops Loras College, 3-1
Mt. St. Joseph defeated Loras 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 26-24, 25-3) on September 4, 2026, at Sherman Gymnasium in Jacksonville, Illinois, to open their season at 1-0.
The serve game was the defining factor: MSJ racked up 14 aces to just 5 for Loras, a margin that repeatedly destabilized the Duhawks' serve-receive. The Lions also held a commanding kill efficiency edge, hitting .246 as a team compared to Loras's .065 — the gap most pronounced in the fourth set, where MSJ swung at a .417 clip while Loras finished at -.222. MSJ out-killed Loras 45 to 33, while Loras held a slight blocking edge (8 to 4) but could not convert that advantage into set wins.
Grace Crider and Mary Kolozsy each posted 9 kills for MSJ, with Aubrey Miranda adding 8. Setter Ginger Johnson drove the offense with 19 assists while also delivering a match-high 6 aces. On the Loras side, Kyra Kuehn led all players with 11 kills, and Cat Meyer contributed 7 kills, 8 digs, and 3 blocks for a well-rounded line.
Johnson opened the fourth set with four consecutive aces, sparking an 11-0 run that effectively ended the match before it began.
The win moves Mt. St. Joseph to 1-0 on the season.
