North Central College tops Ripon College, 3-0
North Central College swept Ripon 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-22) on Saturday morning at Gregory Arena in Naperville, Ill., moving to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in CCIW play.
The Cardinals held a clear advantage across the board, out-killing Ripon 50-33 and posting a .226 attack percentage against the Red Hawks' .176. The most decisive gap came on the service line: North Central recorded six aces to Ripon's zero, a difference that added consistent free points throughout all three sets. Ripon's blocking unit was active — finishing with seven blocks to NCC's one — but it wasn't enough to offset the Cardinals' offensive volume.
Abby Buban led all players with 14 kills on a .324 clip, while Lauren Benson added 12 kills and two aces to finish with 15 points. Ava Hoff contributed 10 kills at a .300 percentage to round out a balanced NCC attack. For Ripon, Hannah Michaels led with eight kills, and setter Mattea Jacobson distributed 24 assists to go with six kills and four blocks.
North Central put together a 6-0 run late in the second set — stretching a 12-14 deficit into a commanding 12-20 lead — to effectively close out the frame and take firm control of the match.
The win moves North Central to 6-4 on the season, while Ripon falls to 4-11.
