Simpson tops Loras College, 3-0
Simpson swept Loras 25-14, 25-10, 25-19 on Wednesday evening at Cowles Fieldhouse in Indianola, Iowa, to open American Rivers Conference play with a victory.
The gap in efficiency told the story clearly: Simpson hit .387 as a team compared to Loras's .112, a margin that held across all three sets. The Storm also held a commanding edge in aces (10 to 3) and blocks (8 to 1), limiting Loras's offensive rhythm throughout. Loras generated its best output in Set 3 (.297), but Simpson matched it with a .385 clip of its own and pulled away late.
Makenzie Sloan led all players with 11 kills on a .550 attacking percentage, while Brynn Roozeboom added 10 kills and 13 total points. Mylee Thurm was a force at the net with a match-high 5 blocks. For Loras, Kyra Kuehn paced the Duhawks with 7 kills, and Grace Cummins anchored the back row with 10 digs. Setter Addison Allen directed the Simpson offense with 31 assists.
In Set 2, Anna Pelds rattled off back-to-back aces to fuel a 5-6-6 run that stretched a slim lead to a commanding advantage, part of a decisive stretch that effectively closed out the frame.
The win moves Simpson to 10-6 overall and 1-0 in American Rivers Conference play.
